NZTA Motor Vehicle Register (MVR) Statement

NZTA Motor Vehicle Register (MVR) Statement

When a parking breach occurs, Wilson Parking is authorised by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) under Section 241 of the Land Transport Act 1998 (LTA) to obtain registered vehicle owner details from the Motor Vehicle Register (Motochek).

You may choose to “opt out,” which means telling the Registrar you do not want your name and address released under Section 241.
The Gazette Notice confirming our authorised access is available here:
https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2021-au308

If you have opted out and your details are not returned, NZTA may still authorise access under other provisions of the LTA. This can occur where NZTA determines that information available under Section 236 may be disclosed under the Official Information Act, as permitted by Section 237(2)(d) of the LTA.

In simple terms, even if you have opted out of Section 241, we may still be able to request your information from NZTA under these additional legislative provisions.
